Your clients come to you stiff, preoccupied, tense. They stretch out and close their eyes as you release the knots in their muscles one by one. They leave smiling, supple and glowing.

Being a massage therapist has its rewards. You help people, make a living, and heal a little part of the world each day.

Greater Acceptance

More people are getting a massage. In a July 2000 survey, twice as many Americans had visited a massage therapist (16 percent) in the previous 12 months as in a similar period in 1997 (8 percent). An even larger group, 21 percent, expected to get a massage from a massage therapist within the next year.

Massage therapy is gaining greater acceptance by insurance companies, as well. Discount massage programs are offered by Blue Cross & Blue Shield or Cigna Health Care and coverage from HMO's like Aetna US Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, and United Healthcare.

The result is that more people are choosing a massage therapy school to make their living with their hands. And many are choosing to get an online degree because distance learning fits more conveniently in their schedules.
